The main focus of the curriculum is Personal, Social, Health and Independence Skills. Students continue to work on their key skills in Maths, English and ICT, as well as RE, PE, Swimming, Current Affairs and Expressive Arts. We work towards the TITAN certificates in independent travel. More details can be found on the Titan website.
The courses offered at Pathways College are unaccredited on the Qualifications Credit Framework. Students will have gained significant accreditation for courses during their time at school, and will continue to do so at College. Whilst at Pathways, our focus is therefore the students’ independence skills. Students at the college have opportunities to participate in regular sports and leisure activities, such as table football, dance, team games and fitness sessions. They also have one hour per week of swimming at the Hewett School pool.
Below are examples of student self-portraits which were completed during creative arts as part of our self-awareness topic. Students also wrote feelings poems during literacy to accompany these self-portraits.
In January 2015, Parkside School Trust took over the White Lion cafe in the city centre to provide opportunities for pupils and students to practice core, communication and interaction skills, as well as gain experience of work. Students at Pathways will take it in turns to run the cafe on a Wednesday during College hours.
We look for opportunities for our students to practice social interaction and independence skills in different contexts. We commission other organisation to complete creative projects with our students to enhance the curriculum. Some of the external providers we work with can be found via the links below.
